EZENWA STARS AS ENYIMBA GO SIXTH

Ikechukwu Ezenwa followed his man-of-the-match performance against Wikki Tourists last Sunday with a clean sheet as Enyimba beat 2-0 Go Round FC in a rescheduled game at UJ Esuene Stadium, Calabar Wednesday.

Ezenwa’s performance should be a boost to Nigeria’s World Cup aspirations.

He is in line to be in goal for Nigeria at the Mundial but got injured against Kwara United in Ilorin two weeks ago.

His form over the past two games shows he is getting over injury worries having also been stretchered off at CHAN earlier in the year. He needs such reassuring showings to lay a solid claim to the starting berth at the World Cup.

Despite playing starring roles during the qualifiers after first choice Carl Ikeme took ill, Ezenwa isn’t assured the first choice role at the Mundial.

Inconsistencies by the keepers means there is no clear-cut first choice going into the World Cup.

Barring late invitations, Ezenwa should battle for the top spot alongside Francis Uzoho and Daniel Akpeyi.

Performances like this will do his form a world of good.

Meanwhile, the victory takes Enyimba to sixth on the log as the People’s Elephant continue their push towards the top of the log.

Joseph Osadiaye’s 51st minute strike and Abdulrahman Bashir’s 63rd minute effort did the job for Enyimba.

In Thursday’s rescheduled ties, Plateau United hosts Kwara United while MFM will be away to Rangers.
